LATIN - LAboratory for Treating INformation
Description
LATIN is a Laboratory of the Department of Computer Science of the Federal University
of Minas Gerais, located in city of Belo Horizonte, state of Minas Gerais,
Brazil.
The main research interests include the study of problems related to
information retrieval in very large full text databases.
The main topics are in the areas of indexing, modeling and interfacing.
Areas
-
Indexing. The main objective of this area is the efficient
generation of indices for very large textual databases.
Main topics:
- Inverted lists (or inverted files)
- Suffix arrays
- Parallel generation of both inverted lists and suffix arrays
- Exact and approximate text searching
- Searching Mechanisms for WWW
- Compression of indices and texts
- Study of textual databases characteristics (word distribution,
auto-similarity)
- Modeling. The main objective of this area is to increase
{\em precision} during the querying process.
Main topics:
- Classic (boolean, vector and probabilistic)
- Inference networks
- Interfacing. The main objective of this area is to provide
easy to use graphic interfaces to information retrieval systems.
Main topics:
- Query formation
- Visualization
- Relevance feedback
